1st HASCOL National Ranking Tennis Championships, 2016, Pakistan No.1 and top seed, Aqeel Khan, eliminated Shaheen Mehmood at score 6-2,6-2 seeded players without much difficulty, advanced in to next rounds By, Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad –Without much difficulty, seeded players advanced in to next rounds the men’s singles and juniors 18 and under singles first round of 1st HASCOLl National Ranking Tennis Championships, 2016, here at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad. Pakistan No.1 and top seed, Aqeel Khan, eliminated Shaheen Mehmood at score 6-2,6-2, Yasir Khan brushed aside Yousaf Khan of Peshawar at 6-0, 6-1, Mudasir Murtaza defeated qualifier Saqib Umer of KP also in straight sets at the score of 6-0, 6-2. In junior under 18 singles, county’s top player from Jehanian, Muzammil Murtaza, (bye in the first round) advanced to round 2 along with other players Hamza Bin Rehan (Islamabad), Barbhat Kumar (Karachi), Aman Atiq (Rawalpindi), Samad Areejo (Karachi), Aqib Umer (Peshawar), S. Nofil Kaleem (Islamabad), Bilal Khan (Hyderabad), and Kashif Khan (Peshawar). Panama leaks episode highlights the need for enactment of federal right to information law By.Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad: The successive democratic governments have made tall claims about the transparent functioning of government departments but none has enacted to ensure right to information law so that journalists and citizens could determine the transparent functioning of government departments. The only right to information law came into being in the shape of Freedom of Information Ordinance 2002 promulgated by General Pervez Musharraf to fulfill conditionality attached with Asian Development Bank loan. Both PML (N) and PPP committed in the Charter of Democracy to repeal this highly ineffective law and enact a new one. Whereas PPP failed to legislate on right to information in its tenure from 2008 to 2013, PMLN is dilly-dallying on this issue on one pretext or the other. In the wake of Panama Leaks, rumors mills are in full swing and have started churning out rumors’ about the very future of democracy in the country. In such a scenario, it is all the more important to strengthen democratic institutions in the country. Information is considered to be life blood of, and oxygen for democracy. Moreover, right to information legislation is regarded as an effective anti-corruption tool and over 106 countries have enacted right to information laws to facilitate access to information held by public bodies. At a time when questions are being raised about mega projects carried out in the past and when mega projects are going to be set-up in the country under CPEC, Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, (CPDI) believes federal government should enact right to information law without further delay. Once right to information law is enacted, only then journalists and citizens will be able to get certified information of their choosing about different projects and initiatives being taken by the federal government. CPDI urges federal government to table in the parliament federal right to information bill approved by the Senate Committee on Information and Broadcasting. 8th tenpin bowling championship concluded at Islamabad, Ijaz Rehman clinches Men’s singles title While in woman singles competition Humera Jabeen got 1st position By, Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad–The 8th tenpin bowling championship concluded in Leisure City bowling club. Men’s singles and women singles competition was conducted in three day’s championship. In men’s singles competition Ijaz Rehman clinches the first position, Sikander Hayat got 2nd and Saqib Shehzad got 3rdposition. While in woman singles competition Humera Jabeen got 1st position, Tanzeela Mazher 2nd while Fozia Khan got 3rd position in the championship. Talking to the media the secretary of the federation Mr. Ijaz Rehman said that our aim is to promote games and encourage the positive healthy activities in the community. He said that through the games our youth can be useful members of the society. He also said that our females have rich talent and the day will come when our females represent Pakistan around the world. He further said that we are planning to arrange more competitions for female during this year and also will conduct training camps to train the female players so that we can haunt the talent for our international competitions.
