.سکھر پریس کلب کے سابق صدر سندھی اخبار اورسندھی ٹی وی چینل ‘کے ٹی این’ سے وابستہ سینئر صحافی جان محمد مہر کو سکھر میں موٹر سائیکل سوار مسلح افراد نے گولی مار کر قتل کر دیا۔
پولیس کے مطابق صحافی جان محمد مہر پر آفس سے گھر جاتے ہوئے قاتلانہ حملہ کیا گیا جس کے باعث وہ زخمی ہوگئے۔ صحافی جان محمد مہر کو تشویشناک حالت میں نجی اسپتال منتقل کیا گیا تاہم وہ دوران علاج اسپتال میں دم توڑ گئے۔
ہسپتال ذرائع نے بتایا کہ وہ سرجری کے دوران زخموں کی تاب نہ لاتے ہوئے چل بسے۔
رپورٹ کے مطابق یہ واقعہ کوئنز روڈ پر واقع سینٹ سیویئر اسکول کے قریب پیش آیا۔
علاقہ پولیس کے مطابق حملہ آوروں نے جان محمد مہر پر متعدد گولیاں چلائیں، جو اپنی کار میں سفر کر رہے تھے۔
پولیس نے بتایا کہ صحافی کے سر اور آنکھوں کے قریب گولیاں لگیں، انہیں تیزی سے تشویشناک حالت میں نجی ہسپتال منتقل کیا گیا۔
حملے کے پیچھے محرکات کا فوری طور پر پتہ نہیں چل سکا تاہم پولیس کا خیال ہے کہ پرانی دشمنی کے باعث قتل کیا گیا ہے۔
پولیس نے حملہ آوروں کی تلاش شروع کر دی ہے۔
واقعے کی اطلاع ملتے ہی میڈیا سے تعلق رکھنے والے افراد کی بڑی تعداد ہسپتال میں جمع ہوگئی، پوری مقامی صحافی برادری کو جان محمد مہر کے انتقال کا سن کرصدمہ پہنچا۔
ایسوسی ایشن آف الیکٹرانک میڈیا ایڈیٹرز اینڈ نیوز ڈائریکٹرز ( ایمنڈ) کا کہنا ہے کہ نامعلوم افراد کی فائرنگ سے سینیئر صحافی جان محمد مہر کے قتل کی مذمت کرتے ہیں۔
ایمنڈ کا کہنا ہے کہ صحافیوں کو تحفظ فراہم کرنا حکومت کی ذمہ داری ہے ، وزیراعلیٰ اور آئی جی سندھ جان محمد مہر کے قتل کی تحقیقات کرائیں۔
سکھر یونین آف جرنلسٹس کے صدر سمیت دیگر نے واقعے کی مذمت کی اور پولیس سے 24 گھنٹے میں ملزمان کو گرفتار کرنے کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔وزیراعلیٰ سندھ سید مراد علی شاہ نے صحافی جان محمد مہر کی قاتلانہ حملے میں شہادت پر گہرے دکھ کا اظہار کیا اور واقعے کی شدید الفاظ میں مذمت کی ہے۔
وزیراعلیٰ سندھ نے آئی جی سندھ کو صحافی جان محمد کے قاتلوں کو گرفتار کرنے کی ہدایت کی ساتھ ہی ان کے بلند درجات اور ورثا کے صبر کے لیے دعا بھی کی۔
چیئرمین پی پی پی بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے بھی صوبے کے سینئر صحافی جان محمد مہر پر قاتلانہ حملے میں شہادت پر اظہار افسوس کیا ہے۔
بلاول بھٹو نے کہا کہ سندھ پولیس صحافی جان محمد مہر کے قتل کے ذمہ داروں کو فی الفور کیفرکردار تک پہنچائے۔ جان محمد مہر کی دو دہائیوں سے زائد عرصے پر محیط صحافتی خدمات قابل قدر ہیں۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ صحافی جان محمد مہر سکھر کی ایک توانا آواز تھے، ان کی غیرجانب دارانہ اور متوازن رائے ملک بھر کے سنجیدہ حلقوں میں مقبول تھی۔
چیئرمین بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے صحافی جان محمد مہر کے اندوہناک قتل پر جملہ لواحقین بشمول کے ٹی این عملے اور سکھر کی صحافی برادری سے بھی اظہار تعزیت کی۔
چیئرمین بلاول بھٹو زرداری نے صحافی جان محمد مہر کے بلندی درجات کے لئے فاتحہ خوانی اور جملہ لواحقین کے صبر جمیل کی دعا بھی کی۔
ایمنڈ نے مطالبہ کیا کہ وزیراعلیٰ اور آئی جی سندھ صحافی جان محمد مہر کے قاتلوں کوفوری گرفتار کرائیں۔
واضح رہے کہ انٹرنیشنل فیڈریشن آف جرنلسٹس (آئی ایف جے) کی جانب سے جاری کردہ اعداد و شمار کے مطابق سال 2022 میں 5 پاکستانی صحافیوں سمیت 67 صحافی اپنے فرائض کی ادائیگی کے دوران قتل کردیے گئے۔
رپورٹ میں کہا گیا کہ حالیہ مہینوں میں ملک کا میڈیا ماحول خطرناک اور زیادہ پُرتشدد ہو گیا ہے، مئی 2022 سے مارچ 2023 کے درمیان حملوں کی تعداد 63 فیصد بڑھ کر 140 ہو گئی جو 22-2021 میں 86 تھی۔رپورٹ میں بتایا گیا تھا کہ پاکستان میں گزشتہ ایک سال کے دوران صحافیوں، میڈیا پروفیشنلز اور آرگنائزیشنز کے خلاف دھمکیوں اور حملوں کے کم از کم 140 کیسز رپورٹ ہوئے، جو سالانہ بنیادوں پر 60 فیصد اضافہ ہے۔

Senior journalist John Muhammad Maher was killed by unknown persons in Sukkur. Murder…………………………….. Ex-President of Sukkur Press Club Sindhi Akhbar and Sindhi T Jan Mohammad Maher, a senior journalist associated with TV-channel ‘KTN’, was shot dead by motorcycle-borne armed men in Sukkur.
According to the police, journalist John Muhammad Maher was attacked on his way home from the office due to which he was injured. Journalist John Muhammad Maher was shifted to a private hospital in critical condition, but he died in the hospital during treatment.
Hospital sources said that he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
According to the report, the incident took place near St. Saviour’s School on Queen’s Road.
According to the local police, the assailants fired multiple shots at John Muhammad Maher, who was traveling in his car.
Police said the journalist was shot in the head and near the eyes, and was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately known, but police believe the killing was due to old enmity.
The police have started searching for the attackers.
As soon as the incident was reported, a large number of people from the media gathered at the hospital, the entire local journalist community was shocked to hear the death of John Muhammad Maher.
The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AMND) says that it condemns the killing of senior journalist Jan Muhammad Maher by firing by unknown persons.
Amand says that it is the responsibility of the government to provide security to journalists, investigate the murder of Chief Minister and IG Sindh Jan Muhammad Maher.
The president of Sukkur Union of Journalists and others condemned the incident and demanded the police to arrest the accused within 24 hours. And the incident has been strongly condemned.
The Sindh Chief Minister directed the IG Sindh to arrest the killers of journalist Jan Muhammad and also prayed for the patience of his nobles and heirs.
Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also expressed his regret over the martyrdom of Jan Muhammad Maher, a senior journalist of the province.
Bilawal Bhutto said that the Sindh Police should immediately bring those responsible for the murder of journalist John Muhammad Mehr to justice. John Muhammad Maher’s journalistic services spanning more than two decades are valuable.
He said that journalist John Muhammad Meher was a powerful voice of Sukkur, his impartial and balanced opinion was popular among serious circles across the country.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed his condolences to the entire family including KTN staff and journalist community of Sukkur over the sad killing of journalist John Muhammad Mehr.
