Pakistan takes on England in the first T20 International in Dubai By.Asghar Ali Mubarak ISLAMABAD– England and Pakistan have had an interesting few weeks prior to this. Three test matches took place in Abu Dhabi from the 13-17 October, followed by one in Dubai 22-26 October, and the third one in Sharjah 1-5 November. Pakistan won these matches in a 2-0 victory. This was followed by a series of ODI matches across the Middle East, two of which were held in Abu Dhabi, followed by one in Sharjah, and the last, in Dubai. England swept it up with a 3-1 victory. The series of T20 matches rounds up the season.The excitement of limited overs cricket has already begun to reach its feverish pitch this November! After the exciting ODIs thattook place across the UAE, Haier Mobile presents UBL ODI & T20 Series, which is starting this Thursday in Dubai. Mr. Naeem Bashir Ahmad, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of International UBL unveiled the trophy with the two captains Shahid Afridi and Eoin Morgan, as well as representatives of the title and sponsors at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. With Pakistan having secured a 2-0 victory in the preceding Test match series, and England winning the preceding ODIs with a 3-1 victory, both sides will be looking to round off the battle with a clear victory in the T20 matches. Tomorrow’s match is the first of three T20 matches, the second of which will also take place in Dubai November 27, and the third in Sharjah on November 30. “I am really excited to lead this young team against the world class English side and we are preparing well. We have rested the senior players for T20 and had some good practice match with some talented young players boosted our confidence level. I hope we can complete this series in a winning note” said Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s T20 captain. England captain Eoin Morgan, wore confidence on his shoulders with the recent ODI success. “We have a balanced squad with a mix of young and talented players. I hope this will be a great condition for us to prepare for the T20 International world cup. I am excited for the fact that, our momentum has improved really well and we look forward for a very good T20 games”.

Pakistani Junior Boys 16 Tennis team will participate in Davis Cup Asiaian pre-qualifying competition By.Asghar Ali Mubarak ISLAMABAS–The Pakistani Junior Boys 16 Tennis team will participate in Davis Cup Asiaian pre-qualifying competition2016 scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from 29th Feb to 6th March, 2016. Pakistan was the runner-up at last year’s event held in Malaysia. According to Muhammad Khalid RehmaniSecretary Pakistan Tennis Federation the trials to select a three-member team shall be held at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad, from 27th to 30 December, 2015. Six top players, as per then current rankings and age eligibility, along with one wild card each from Punjab , Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, will take part. Players will be divided into two groups and two players from each group shall be selected for the 2nd phase where all selected four players will play round robin matches for selection of the three-member team; the player at 4th position after the final trials, will be a standby. Following six players are being invited to report at the trials venue on the mentioned date. Sahabzada Muhammad Ali, Nauman Aftab, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Shoaib Khan, Aqib Umer and Hamza Bin Rehan. For wild card entries, all the three provincial Associations are required to conduct regional trials for the age group eligible for the 2016 event and send the name of their best player latest by 15th December at PTF complex. Six players selected on the basis of their rankings will get economy class railway fare, daily allowance and accommodation at Dilawar Abbas PTF tennis Complex whereas wild card entries, out of station players, will be provided accommodation only, and will get any other allowances if they qualify for Phase 2.

3rdannual Sports Day held at the Islamabad College of Arts and Sciences ●United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organized events for Pakistani students. ●Islamabad’s Talent Showcased in International Education Week Celebrations By.Asghar Ali Mubarak The 3rdannual Sports Day was held at the Islamabad College of Arts and Sciences (ICAS) and included matches in football, basketball, and table tennis for boys and girls. Students from eighteen local high schools competed with their contemporaries and the winners were awarded medals and cups as USEFP’s Sports Day Champions. The Dramatic Reading Contest was a chance for contestants to breathe life into poetry or prose. Sixty finalists performed in front of a live audience at the ICAS auditorium. In celebration of the 16th International Education Week, the EducationUSA center at the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organized a series of spectacular events for Pakistani students. International Education Week is an opportunity to promote and celebrate the benefits of international education and cultural exchange. Started as a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week promotes global learning programs and encourages future leaders to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. The USEFP continued its efforts to encourage self-expression through art and music. The grand finale of last year’s most popular event “USEFP’s Got Talent” was held at Bahria University. Islamabad’s talented youth enraptured a packed auditorium with their singing, dancing, and acting skills. The performances were judged by a panel of celebrity judges and the winners received iPads, Kindles and gift vouchers. USEFP’s Got Talent was held in partnership with Pakistan’s No.1 radio network, FM89. The “USEFP’s talent showcase shows that while education is serious business, it is also fun. International Education Week is a great opportunity to underscore our commitment to education. The U.S. Embassy is proud to continue to support educational exchange programs here in Pakistan – for high school students, college students, and post-graduates. We would like more Pakistani students to study in the United States,” said Christina Tomlinson, Counselor for Public Affairs. According to the 2015 Open Doors Report, students from Pakistan increased their presence on U.S. campuses by 8.5% from 2014. Currently 5,354 Pakistani students are studying in the United States, making it one of the leading 50 places of origin for international students in the United States, and the third largest place of origin in South Central Asia. At the grand finale of USEFP’s Got Talent, Executive Director Rita Akhtar addressed the audience and participants, “The strong growth in the number of Pakistani students studying in the United States confirms that the United States remains the destination of choice in higher education. International Education Week is an opportunity for international students to develop a global perspective and celebrate diversity while encouraging the critical role that international education and exchange plays in fostering mutual understanding.” The Other highlights included the launch of the EducationUSA Pakistan Alumni Network, Pakistan’s first U.S. graduate alumni network and the High Achievers’ Ceremony. An inaugural Alumni Connect event was held at the Islamabad Club for 60 members to connect with fellow U.S. alumni and professionals. President ATF Anil Kumar Khanna planted a Guava tree at PTF complex Islamabad By.Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad—The Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) president and vice president International Tennis Federation Anil Kumar Khanna planted a Guava tree at PTF complex Islamabad along with Pakistan Tennis Federation president Salim Saifullah Khan, patrons Senator Dilawar Abbas, Brig (R) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar, ,SVP, Khawar Hayat,Iftakhar Rasheed,Arif Qureshi,Inam ul Haq,Hameed ul Haq on other day. The tradition of asking visiting dignitaries to plant a tree is evidence of the importance of trees in Pakistani culture. The Tree planting is also globally associated with friendship-a growing tree symbolizes a strong bond of friendship. Planting trees in the memory of deceased leaders, famous personalities, relatives and family members directly supports environment. But the emotional support provided by trees planted in the memory of loved ones is a less talked about social benefit of promoting trees outside forests. Requesting the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) president and vice president International Tennis Federation Anil Kumar Khanna to plant a tree is an indication of the importance which Pakistan and Pakistani people attach to trees. Guava contains maximum vitamin C content per l00g. Of pulp after Amla. Guava is an important fruit of tropical and subtropical area of the world. It is commonly called poor man’s fruit. It contains antioxidant factors and can control systolic blood pressure. It is good source of roughage and help in removal of constipation. In India it is cultivated almost throughout except higher hills. It gives two crops in a year. That is why it is being preferred for plating in soils where citrus cannot be grown. Two main cultivars which originated in sub continent. Guava has become an important fruit crop of Pakistan. Guava is native to Central America and is widely cultivated in South Africa, Hawai, Indian continent and Mexico. It is a spreading tree, may grow up to height of 8 meters with same spread. The trunk is light brown in color with shredding scaly bark. Highly branched tree. The leaves are oblong-elliptic in shape. The pubescent is present on the underside of leaves. Leaves are light green to dark green in color show crimson colored strips during cold weather. Flowers appear on new growth singly or in three to four. Guava gives two to three crops in year. The growers have been advised to forgo the rainy season crop as it is usually attacked by fruit fly. However, orchards are auctioned for the whole year hence it becomes difficult to convince the contractors to eliminate the rainy season crop. Ovary is inferior, stamens many. Fertilization takes place before the opening of the flower, which is termed as cleistogamy. The fruit shape may vary from round to oblong or pyriform depending upon the cultivar. Flesh is soft contains many seeds in the centre, although seedless fruits are also found.

Pakistani Junior Boys 16 Tennis team will participate in Davis Cup Asiaian pre-qualifying competition By.Asghar Ali Mubarak ISLAMABAS–The Pakistani Junior Boys 16 Tennis team will participate in Davis Cup Asiaian pre-qualifying competition2016 scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from 29th Feb to 6th March, 2016. Pakistan was the runner-up at last year’s event held in Malaysia. According to Muhammad Khalid RehmaniSecretary Pakistan Tennis Federation the trials to select a three-member team shall be held at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad, from 27th to 30 December, 2015. Six top players, as per then current rankings and age eligibility, along with one wild card each from Punjab , Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, will take part. Players will be divided into two groups and two players from each group shall be selected for the 2nd phase where all selected four players will play round robin matches for selection of the three-member team; the player at 4th position after the final trials, will be a standby. Following six players are being invited to report at the trials venue on the mentioned date. Sahabzada Muhammad Ali, Nauman Aftab, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Shoaib Khan, Aqib Umer and Hamza Bin Rehan. For wild card entries, all the three provincial Associations are required to conduct regional trials for the age group eligible for the 2016 event and send the name of their best player latest by 15th December at PTF complex. Six players selected on the basis of their rankings will get economy class railway fare, daily allowance and accommodation at Dilawar Abbas PTF tennis Complex whereas wild card entries, out of station players, will be provided accommodation only, and will get any other allowances if they qualify for Phase 2.
