Pakistani squash star Nasir Iqbal beat American Todd Hamity in the final of Serena Hotels President Gold Cup International Squash Championship 2015. The Final Match of the President Gold Cup International Squash Championship sponsored by Serena Hotels took place at the Mushaf Squash Complex. The Championship is hosted under the banner of the Serena Hotels Sports Diplomacy Initiative. The final was a totally one sided contest between Nasir Iqbal and Todd Harrity. Nasir Iqbal won the match in straight games 3-0.The Pakistani rising squash star Nasir Iqbal dominated from the beginning and won the first game easily with the game score 11/7. He consolidated his grip on the match by winning the second game with the game score 11/8. The third game was also won by Nasir with the game score 11/5, earning him the championship trophy. The match lasted for 25 minutes. The Sports Diplomacy Initiative aims to promote healthy interaction amongst various communities. Under its banner, Serena Hotels, in collaboration with the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) are attempting to revive Pakistan’s Squash Legacy. Pakistan has historically excelled at Squash, with legends such as Qamar Zaman, Jehangir Khan, Jansher Khan, Hashim Khan, Roshan Khan, Torsam Khan, Gogi Alauddin still renowned world over today. The Serena Hotels and the PSF also hosted the Serena Hotels – Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship in October 2015 to further the aim of reviving Pakistan’s Squash legacy. In fact, it was clear that Pakistan was making a comeback in the field of Squash during the game. Mr. Nasir Iqbal (Pak) was up against Mr. Todd Harrity (USA) in what ended up being a riveting final match. The crowd was clearly cheering on the home favorite, Mr. Iqbal, who had previously created a major upset in the game during the semi finals by defeating Mr. Omar Abdel Meguid, the Champion of the 2014 Serena Hotels –Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship. After a heated match, Mr.Nasir Iqbal from Pakistan emerged victorious, a great testament to Serena Hotels efforts in reviving the legacy of squash during the past few years. The crowd was especially excited to cheer our own champion. The PSF lauded Serena Hotels in their whole hearted commitment to promoting Pakistani Culture. The President Gold Cup was held this year after a hiatus of more than 25 years. Much to the delight of the crowd, legends Mr. Qamar Zaman, Jehangir Khan, Jansher Khan and Gogi Alauddin were all present at the occasion. The two finalists were awarded prizes by the President of Pakistan, H.E. Mamnoon Hussain. The Chief of Air Staff, Air vice Marshal Sohail Aman and CEO Serena Hotels, Mr. Aziz Boolani were also present on the occasion. The President Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain awarded trophies to the players. Former World Champions Mr. Jahangir Khan, Mr. Qamar Zaman, Mr. Jansher Khan and Mr. Mohib Ullah also witnessed the match. Foreign diplomats, civil and military officials along with a large number of squash lovers witnessed the match.
