Islamabad—The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited the Army marksmanship Firing Ranges near Jhelum on Monday and witnessed the closing ceremony of 36th Pakistan Army Rifle Association (PARA) Central Meet, the biggest shooting competition of the country, organized after a lapse of five years. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said at this ocean that training is a vital part of every soldier’s professional development and must remain our hallmark to accomplish the assigned mission. COAS directed to conduct more competitions with an increase in civilian participation to encourage and prepare our youth for national and international shooting sports competitions. While interacting with participants, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif appreciated the shooters on their excellent standard of marksmanship. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif specially appreciated the trainers for optimum utilization of newly created facility which has not only afforded opportunity to bring forward young talent but also helped train marksmen and snipers who are proving decisive in our fight against terror.A total of 800 firers including 33 civilians of 28 teams from across the country including Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air force, Frontier Corps, Pakistan Rangers, Coast Guards, Gilgit Baltistan Scouts and Police participated in 22 events during the four weeks long PARA meet. Pakistan Army won to become champion in Inter Services Firing Competition. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif awarded the trophies and medals to the winners and runners up in each category of shooting. Biggest Military Shooting honor “The Master at Arms Trophy”, “The President’s Cup, National Challenge Match Trophy”, The prime minister “Skills at Arms” big bore and The “Best Shot Match Trophy” were awarded to Lieutenant Saud, Brigadier Shah Nawaz, Lieutenten colonel Junaid waqas and Sepoy Naveed Ahmed of Pakistan Army respectively. In Individual dl Gold Winners, Mr Jameel Ashraf won Sporting Rifle 300ms, Mr Ahmed Sultan Skeet Individual, while Mr Shameel and Mr Zahid Tufail won Skeet team Gold Medal. 4 x PARA national records were also made during the championship.The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif awarded the trophies among the winners of 36th Pakistan Army Rifle Association (PARA) Central at Army marksmanship Firing Ranges near Jhelum.The Pakistan Army is one of the recognized and affiliated Services Organizations of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). The objectives of sports in the Army are to create environments/culture of esprit-de-corps, comradeship, physical and mental fitness culminating into healthy competitions. It also aims at channelizing the energies of the soldiers in a positive direction and promoting character building amongst them. For This purpose the Army Sports Directorate is sourcing all efforts. The Army Sports Directorate besides organizing, planning and conducting the sports in the Army, coordinates with sister services organizations, various National Sports Federations (NSFs), Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). The Pakistan Army is affiliated with all the National Sports Federations in the Country and takes part in all National Championships on regular basis.
The Pakistan Army remains the backbone of the National Sports which indeed is the only institution that provides bulk of athletes for the national teams. It has the honor of winning the “Quaid-i-Azam Trophy” during the National Games for record 23 times and 17 times in a row with overwhelming lead over all other departments /provinces. The National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) is the national governing body to develop and promote the sport of Shooting in the Country. The National Rifle Association of Pakistan was revived in 1986. Over the last 15 years, Pakistan has won various medals in the Asian Shooting Championships, Commonwealth Games and South Asian Games.At present, Admiral (Retd) Noman Bashir NI (M) is the President and Mr. Javaid Shamshad Lodhi is the Secretary General of the NRAP. The Pakistani shooters have participated in the last three Olympics , Won five Gold, five Silver and Eleven Bronze medals in the 10th South Asian Games held in Colombo, Sri Lanka 2006.Won one Silver medal in the XVIII Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia 2006. Medal won by Mr. Irshad Ali. Won five Gold, nine Silver and seven Bronze medals in the 4th South Asian Shooting Championship held from 20th to 28thNovember 2008, Islamabad. Won five Silver and three Bronze medals in the 11th South Asian Games held in Dhaka, Bangladesh 2010.
