The ‘’KING OF THE RING ‘Legendary Boxer Amir Khan defeats Phil Lo Greco by Knockout inside 39 seconds on return to the ring, Boxer Amir Khan made a blistering return to the ring by beating Phil Lo Greco by knockout inside 39 seconds at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
Forget any doubts about Amir Khan. Forget about ring rust, or a busted career. The former light-welterweight world champion produced a huge statement here on Saturday night on his ring return after two years away with a vicious knockout of opponent Phil Lo Greco, blitzing the Canadian and dropping him twice in under 39 seconds.

The 31-year-old had not fought for two years, since being beaten by Saul “Canelo” Álvarez in Las Vegas in May 2016, and he made up for lost time by knocking the Canadian Lo Greco down twice in the early stages.
Legendary Boxer Amir Khan, in his first bout on British soil since a point’s victory over Julio Diaz five years ago, sent Lo Greco to the canvas with a swift one-two combination inside the opening 30 seconds. The super-welterweight contest was over moments later as the Briton’s devastating hand speed pinned his opponent up against the ropes to ensure it was over moments after it had started.
It meant Legendary Boxer Amir Khan delivered an emphatic statement to Kell Brook, who was watching on from ringside, before a possible all-British grudge match between the two Matchroom stablemates.
This was the first of a three-fight deal Legendary Boxer Amir Khan had signed with Eddie Hearn and his promoter had conceded his fighter could not afford a fifth defeat on his record.
That never looked likely and there was no evidence of any ring rust from Khan either after he changed to the trainer Joe Goossen in the buildup to this bout. Lo Greco appeared stunned by Khan’s sheer speed from the outset and, as soon as he dropped him with a right hand, it looked like a foregone conclusion.
There was an eight count on that occasion and moments after the two squared off again, a flurry of left hands from Khan ended it all.
Legendary Boxer Amir Khan first came to prominence when he won a silver medal in the lightweight division at the 2004 Olympics, thus becoming Britain’s youngest boxing Olympic medallist at 17. He won the WBA light-welterweight title in 2009 and the IBF title in 2011. His professional record is 34 wins (20 by knockout) and four defeats.
After the fight Legendary Boxer Amir Khan said: “I’ve been out of the ring for two years. I’ve never taken a day off the gym. I’ve had a hand operation and the hand felt good in the fight.
“People just wanted to see me come back and I wanted to prove a point and come back. I’m two years out of the ring but I’m back with a big bang.”
When asked if he is targeting a fight against Brook, Khan said: “I want to become a world champion again so I want to fight the top guys in the welterweight division. I’m a 147lb fighter. I moved up to 150lb for this fight because I’ve not been in the ring for two years. That fight I’m not rushing and I’m not running away from.
“I will fight Kell Brook and I will beat Kell Brook. I’m a better fighter and a stronger fighter.”
Brook responded by telling Legendary Boxer Amir Khan he would make him see stars – a reference to Khan’s appearance in last year’s I’m a Celebrity … Get Me out of Here! “Amir, all the fans want the fight, I want the fight,” Brook said. “He can go in the jungle and chase stars but when he gets in there with me, I’ll make him see stars.”
Some perspective is needed, given that Lo Greco is not an elite fighter, yet he went the distance with former world champion Shawn Porter, and Khan joined current world welterweight champion Errol Spence as the only other boxer to stop Lo Greco. Khan delighted a sold-out arena here beside the Mersey, going to work with a determined immediacy, looking fast, precise and emphatic.It was an electrifying left-right that was unleashed by Khan for his first knock-down of his opponent, followed up by a series of left hooks, seconds later to finish the show. “I caught him early and speed was causing him big problems,” said an elated Khan. “It’s been two years but I have not lost anything. The hunger is still there; my body just needed that break.”The arena erupted at Khan’s triumph, as did the needle between Khan and British arch rival Kell Brook, a rivalry that has bubbled darkly for several years.Intriguingly, it was Spence who defeated Brook to claim the Sheffield fighter’s welterweight crown last year. Brook stepped into the ring after the fight, with the two men renewing their grudge and rivalry. Khan threw down a challenge to Brook and left the ring with his entourage.“It’s all banter, I respect Kell. It’s a fight that can happen down the line. The option is there; we’ll sit with Eddie Hearn and discuss it next week. The main thing is I’m back.”Brook, though, was not so impressed with the Khan tete-a-tete. He said: “He gave me no eye-contact, said his thing, and ran off. I’m getting hounded about fighting him. I just want to punish him, knock him out. We are both on a high after wins and it is time for us to fight.”Hearn agrees, but admitted there is much negotiation to do. “It’s a stadium fight,” he said. “They asked if Amir Khan still has it. Does he still have the speed? He was even faster. What a statement after his absence from a British ring. This was just brilliant.”Just before Khan’s ring return, there was a majestic, disciplined performance from Tommy Coyle who stopped Sean Dodd in the sixth round to claim the Commonwealth lightweight title. It was the perfect precursor to the Bolton fighter’s ring walk.Earlier, the thrilling Conor Benn, son of former world champion Nigel, extended his unblemished ledger to 12 victories with another stoppage over Birmingham’s Chris Truman, the fight being stopped in the fourth round.Benn, 21, is still learning on the job, with his father reiterating afterwards that he only had 20 amateur fights.At the start of the night, Natasha Jonas landed her first professional title with a seventh round stoppage of French fighter Taoussy L’Hadji, the popular Liverpool boxer claiming the vacant World Boxing Association international super-featherweight crown.Hearn told media on Saturday night that he will be looking to create a deal “for Jonas to fight for a world title next”. “I think she is ready,” said Hearn. Eva Wahlstrom, the WBC champion, of Finland, is the likely opponent.The Nasty, brutish and short. Amir Khan floored him inside the first 15 seconds, he got up again, Khan delivered a few quicker, hard blows and that was it. The ref called it off. Couldn’t have gone much better for King Khan in his first fight back for two years. He might have wanted a bit more though?
