Islamabad: HUM TV won the 1st RISJA Inter-media independence cup cricket tournament defeated Geo TV by 9 in the final at national cricket ground Islamabad. In the RISJA cup final hosted by Park View City and Nass Gas jointly at the National Cricket Ground Islamabad. The victorious Geo TV bating first scored 82 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Geo TV’s Hassam Ahmed scored 25, Shehzad Iqbal 16 while Sameer Butt bowled two wickets. In reply, Hum TV achieved the target in the twelfth over for one wicket. Hum TV Sameer Butt scored 53 runs and declared man of the match. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry distributed prizes among the players. On becoming the champion of the tournament, a prize money of Rs. 500,000 was distributed to Hum TV and Rs. 2.5 lakh to runners-up Geo TV. Sameer Butt was declared the best batsman of the tournament and Afzal Javed was declared the best bowler. On this occasion, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry appreciated the efforts of Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association in organizing the tournament and assured all possible cooperation and said that such healthy activities should be organized among the journalists. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said Pakistan is destined to become a secure, sovereign, and developed country. Speaking at the ceremony of the 1st RISJA Intermedia independence cup cricket tournament to mark the Independence Day in, the Minister said the entire nation is celebrating the Independence Day with traditional fervour and enthusiasm. He said with the struggle and sacrifices of the people, Pakistan has become a significant country in the comity of nations. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said one can feel the difference by comparing the freedom being enjoyed by the Pakistani Muslims with the plight of Indian Muslims and Kashmiri Muslims living in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said we should not forget the sacrifices of our security forces due to which we are enjoying freedom, cricket and other sporting events with utmost peace. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said those who are sitting in Pakistan and running trends against it and its army are turning a blind eye over the situation in Afghanistan. He said people are only safe when institutions of a country are strong. The Minister said we should value our independence and country. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said rulers of Afghanistan plundered their country for decades and did not spend money to build institutions.
