BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER AWARDS FELLOWSHIPS TO OUTSTANDING PAKISTANI JOURNALISTS

Islamabad- The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, HE Philip Barton CMG OBE hosted a ceremony to award fellowships to seven exceptionally talented journalists from Pakistani media. The High Commissioner presented the fellowship awards under the South Asia Journalism Programme to the selected journalists. The British High Commissioner also welcomed back the 18 Pakistani Scholars from the 2014/15 Chevening Scholarship programme, who have returned from the UK this year after completing their fully-funded one-year master-level studies.The 2016 SAJP Fellowship is a tailor-made journalism skills development course developed by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office for high calibre journalists. The programme will enable journalists to explore different ways in which the media can play a role in democratic processes. It also focuses on the ways in which the media are accountable, and the wider context within which political institutions operate.The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, HE Philip Barton CMG OBE at this occion Congratulating the selected Chevening Fellows of the SAJP Programme the British High Commissioner said:“I am pleased to see today the selected fellows of Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme and the returning scholars from the Chevening one year masters programme.“I congratulate the SAJP Fellows on making it through the tough selection process. They should be proud of being selected for the Chevening Fellowship. He said that the South Asia Journalism Programme is unique for this region and the fellowship is a great professional development opportunity to identify and support the next generation of media leaders from the South Asia region.“I also welcome our Chevening class of 2014/15 who have returned to Pakistan with new knowledge, improved confidence and new skills after the successful completion of their courses in the UK. The Chevening Scholarship brings immediate benefits for individual scholars and long-term benefits for the UK and Pakistan by creating a wealth of shared knowledge and skills.“Very few get the opportunity to study in the UK at this level. I hope that those who do develop an appreciation of UK policies and approaches and bear these in mind when contributing to developments in their country.”The Pakistan remains one of the top priority countries for Chevening awards. This year Chevening received record number of applications from across the globe and more eligible application from Pakistan as compared to the last year. This shows the importance the UK puts in its relationship with Pakistan.”The South Asia Journalism Programme Fellows will attend course in London at the University of Westminster’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications. They will participate in seven weeks of lectures, visits, and discussions that introduce them to key UK academics, media, and political figures in the field. They will also spend time meeting their peers in some of the UK’s top media organisations, as well as running a symposium on a topic of their choice in the final week.

برطانوی ہائی کمشنر کی جانب سے بہترین پاکستانی صحافیوں کو  فیلو شپ  دی گئی

پاکستان کے لیے برطانوی ہائی کمشنر فلپ بارٹن  )کمپینین آف دی آرڈر آف سینٹ مائیکل اینڈ سینٹ جارج، آرڈر آف دی برٹش ایمپائر( نے آج ایک تقریب کی میزبانی کرتے ہوئے پاکستانی ذرائع ابلاغ میں اعلٰی کارکردگی کا مظاہرہ کرنے والے سات صحافیوں  کو فیلو شپ اعزاز کیں۔ برطانوی ہائی کمشنر کی جانب سے منتخب صحافیوں کو سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام کے تحت یہ فیلو شپ پیش کی گئیں۔

برطانوی فارن اینڈ کامن ویلتھ آفس کی جانب سے سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام 2016 کے تحت یہ  فیلو شپ  اعلٰی پائے کے صحافیوں کی صلاحیتوں میں اضافے کے لیے خاص طور پر تیار کی گئی ہے۔   یہ پروگرام صحافیوں کی پیشہ ورانہ صلاحیتوں میں وسعت پیدا کرے گا جن کے ذریعے ذرائع ابلاغ جمہوری عمل کو پروان چڑھانے میں اپنا اہم کردار ادا کرتا ہے۔ اس پروگرام کی تیاری میں ذرائع ابلاغ پر عائد کی جانے والی ذمہ داریوں اور سیاسی اداروں  کے کام کرنے کے سیاق و سباق پر بھی وسیع توجہ مرکوز کی گئی ہے۔

برطانوی ہائی کمشنر نے 2014 / 15 کے چیوننگ اسکالرشپ پروگرام  کے تحت برطانیہ سے ایک سالہ ماسٹر لیول تعلیمی پروگرام مکمل کرکے واپس آنے والے اٹھارہ پاکستانی فضلاء کا بھی استقبال کیا۔سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام 2016 کے منتخب شدہ صحافیوں کو مبارک باد دیتے ہوئے اور چیوننگ 2014 / 15 کے فارغ التحصیل کا خیرمقدم کرتے ہوئے برطانوی ہائی کمشنر نے کہا:” میرے لیے چیوننگ 2014 / 15 کے فارغ التحصیل اور سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام 2016 کے منتخب شدہ صحافیوں سے ملاقات قابلِ مسرت ہے۔” سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام 2016 کے مشکل  انتخاب کے عمل سے گذر کر کامیاب ہونے والے فیلوز مبارکباد کے مستحق ہیں۔  سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام اس خطے کے لئے منفرد ہے اور فیلوشپ   پیشہ ورانہ صلاحیتوں میں اضافے اور جنوبی ایشیاءکے خطے  کی آنے والی نسلوں میں سے ذرائع ابلاغ کے رہنمائوں  کے ساتھ تعاون  کے لیے بہترین  موقع فراہم کرتی ہے۔”میں چیوننگ 2014 / 15 کے فارغ التحصیل کا بھی پاکستان واپسی پر خیرمقدم کرتا ہوں۔ یہ لوگ برطانیہ میں اپنے  اپنے منتخب شدہ نصاب کے مطابق تعلیم مکمل کرکے اعلٰی تعلیم ، بہتر اعتماد اور نئی مہارت کے ساتھ وطن واپس آئے ہیں۔  چیوننگ اسکالر شپ فارغ التحصیل کے لیے انفرادی طور پر فوری فوائد  مہیا کرتے ہوئے برطانیہ اور پاکستان کو مشترکہ علم اور ہنر کی دولت سے نوازتی ہے۔”برطانیہ جا کر ایسی اعلٰی سطح کی تعلیم حاصل کرنے کا موقع بہت کم افراد کو ملتا ہے۔ مجھے امید ہے کہ  اس موقع سے فائدہ اٹھانے والے خوش قسمت اپنے ملک کی ترقی کے لیے کام کرتے ہوئے برطانیہ کی پالیسیوں اور نقطہ نظر کی افادیت کو بھی تسلیم کرتے ہوئے انہیں یاد رکھیں گے۔”پاکستان چیوننگ وظائف کے لیے اولین ترجیحی ممالک میں سے ایک ہے۔ اس سال دنیابھر میں چیویننگ پروگرام کے لیے وصول ہونے والی درخواستوں میں پچھلے سال کے مقابلے میں ریکارڈ اضافہ دیکھنے میں آیا۔ پاکستان میں زیادہ اہل افراد کی جانب سے درخواتیں وصول ہوئیں۔ یہ برطانیہ کی جانب سے پاکستان  کی اہمیت کو ظاہر کرتا ہے.سائوتھ ایشاء جرنلزم پروگرام 2016 کے فیلوز لندن کی ویسٹ منسٹر یونیورسٹی کے ڈپارٹمنٹ آف جرنلزم اینڈ ماس کمیونی کیشن میں کورس میں شرکت کریں گے۔ سات ماہ کے عرصے پر محیط لیکچر، دورے اور بات چیت کے دوران فیلوز کو برطانیہ کے طریقہ تعلیم، ذائع ابلاغ اور سیاسی امور سے متعارف کرایا جائے گا۔ فیلوز کی ملاقات برطانوی ذرائع ابلاغ  کے اعلٰی ترین نمائندوں سے کرائی جائے گی اور آخری ہفتے کے دوران وہ اپنے منتخب کردہ موضوع پر ایک سمپوزیم سے بھی خطاب کریں گے۔اس سال چیوننگ سائوتھ ایشیائ جرنلزم پروگرام میں منتخب ہونے والے فیلوز میں 92 نیوز چینل کے طارق محمود،  روزنامہ مشرق پشاور \ ریڈیو برّاق کے رشید خان صافی، دی نیوز انٹرنیشنل کے فخر درّانی، ایف ایم 107 کی نورین شمس،  دی نیوز آن سنڈے\ جنگ گروپ کی الیفیا حسین، جیو نیوز کی نازش ظفر اور دی نیوز انٹر نیشنل کے عبد الوسیم عباسی شامل ہیں۔چیوننگ اسکالر شپ کے فارغ التحصیل کی  قائم کردہ چیوننگ المنائی ایسو سی ایشن آف پاکستان  کی تشکیل سے  پروگرام میں شامل ہونے والوں کو پاکستان کے استحکام اور ترقی کے لیے مل جل کر کام  کرنے پر اپنے منتخب شدہ موضوعات پر اظہارِ خیال کے لیے ایک پلیٹ فارم بھی مہیا ہوگیا ہے۔
