Rawalpindi—A man was critically injured as Indian army opened unprovoked fire in Pakistani areas along the Line of Control on Sunday but the Pakistan Army gave a befitting response to Indian aggression in Kotli area of Azad Kashmir.
Indian troops violated the Line of Control ceasefire Sunday morning and resorted to unprovoked firing in Jandroot Sector near Kotli, a military statement said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Pakistani troops responded effectively to the Indian firing.
Last month, military sources reported firing by Indian troops at Pakistani posts across the LoC in the Nakial sector near Kotli and the Bajwat sector of the Sialkot working boundary.
The ISPR had earlier also said that Indian troops had fired in the Poonch sector along the LoC by using mortar and other heavy weapons which had been strongly responded by Pakistani troops.
In December last year, Pakistan and India had pledged to uphold the 2003 LoC ceasefire accord which had been left in tatters by repeated violations that year. The truce breaches had put the nascent bilateral peace dialogue on hold.
The directors general of military operations of the two countries had agreed to a number of steps to keep the ceasefire accord intact. The meeting had taken place on the initiative of the political leadership of the two countries for ending tensions along the LoC.
Ceasefire violations along the LoC and working boundary between Pakistan and India continue intermittently, with casualties reported on both sides.

Omar rushed from Srinagar despite the Eid-ul-Adha festival to attend the cremation of five civilians killed in mortar shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Arnia sub-sector of R.S. Pura in Jammu district. Talking to media persons, Abdullah said, “Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tried to raise the pitch over Kashmir during his UN general assembly address. But he did not find any takers for his rant over Kashmir. It (Pakistan) is now showing its frustration by targeting civilian areas on our side of the border”.
