Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday said the armed forces, with the unwavering support of the nation, remained resolute in their determination to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country, the military’s media wing said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief said this during his visit to the Corps Headquarters Peshawar, where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the province.
Field Marshal Munir directed the formations to remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness.
He commended the high morale, readiness and professionalism of the officers and troops, acknowledging their commitment to safeguarding the country and its people.
The COAS and CDF also visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada, where he laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha in tribute to personnel who laid down their lives in defence of the country and in the fight against terrorism.
He reaffirmed that the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs would never be forgotten.
Upon arrival at the Corps Headquarters, the army chief was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps.
The army chief’s visit comes days after terrorists carried out a catastrophic attack in Kohat district.
At least 21 people, including 15 police personnel and six civilians, were martyred and 57 others injured on Friday after an explosives-laden vehicle struck a mosque inside Kohat Police Lines, followed by an attempt by terrorists to storm police installations.
The assault occurred during Friday prayers at the mosque near the Old Police Lines.
The KP Central Police Office had earlier reported that a suicide bomber detonated himself near the Special Branch building within the compound. The office later confirmed the toll of 21 martyred — 15 police personnel and six civilians — with the injured count at 57.
Tension persisted in the vicinity of the police lines, and residents said they heard roughly 10 explosions after the initial blast.
